Hearing God’s Word: It’s a Multiplier

“…he said to them, take heed what you hear: with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you: and to you that hear shall more be given.” Mark 4:24

Let me paraphrase this verse, “Be careful what you listen to and how you invest your time into what you hear and what you say, because it will come back to you (good or bad), and you’ll find yourself in an endless loop of blessing or cursing.”

Let me use a common expression we hear now-days (almost endlessly) as an example, “…with the economy the way it is.” Well, what does God have to say about your personal economy? He says (if we listen) that “we are blessed,” “he meets ALL our needs according to his glorious riches,” “he cares for us,” and we are “heirs of Christ” and “heirs of Abraham.”

If we would stop parroting what the media says and start repeating what God says, we’ll be in great shape. But it begins with being careful about what we fill our ears with and how much of it we hear. So let’s make it our goal to hear LOTS of God’s words, that way it can be measured back to us.

After all, he is looking for people who have a holy reverence for His Word, and for those that will apply themselves to learning it and living it.

Wisdom Never Loses Her Edge

“If the ax is dull, and one does not sharpen the edge, then he/she must use more strength, but wisdom brings success.”  Ecclesiastes 10:10 NKJV

Whatever “tools” you use for your job, make sure you maintain them well and that you work smart.

So often we find ourselves “trying harder” (using more strength), instead of opening up ourselves to more wise ways to be successful.

Hard work is good, but sometimes it’s not a matter of hard work, but rather smart work–using godly wisdom to find out how to hone (sharpen) our tools, talents, and gifts versus applying more force.

Wisdom NEVER loses her edge–so striking with her as your tool always brings success!

Have Chats With Yourself About God’s Goodness

“Praise the Lord, I tell myself, and never forget the good things he does for me.  He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.” Psalm 103:2-3 (NLT)

This psalm was written by King David, and what he is basically saying is, “I discipline myself to remember the good things God does for me, and to say them out loud.”

Let’s face it what ifs are dangerous conjectures to keep running through our brains…and if we don’t set ourselves in remembrance of God’s goodness towards us, we will fall into the What If Pit of Despair ! So we have to pep talk ourselves on a regular basis–reflecting back on all God  has done for us…using it as a spring board to believe for today’s needs, and tomorrow’s as well.

Rolling negative scenarios around in our minds is counter-productive to what outcome we really want! It keeps us in a posture of expecting a bad outcome versus a good one–so our faith needs to SPEAK UP about what God has done and what  he will do.  If we do that, not only will we be telling ourselves the truth, but positioning ourselves to receive God’s rich blessings.

So have chats with yourself regularly about God’s goodness and you’ll receive his constant care!

Psalm 91 Paraphrased and Personalized

Today’s devotion will be a little different…below is Psalm 91 paraphrased and personalized. Pray this out loud over yourself and meditate on its wonderful promises. (I’ve broken it down in lines with bullets to make it easier to read.)

  • I live in the shelter of the Most High, so I find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
  • I declare of the LORD that he alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God and I trust him because he will rescue me from every trap and protect me from the fatal plague.
  • He shields me with his wings. He shelters me with his feathers.
  • His faithful promises are my armor and protection.
  • I will not be afraid of night terrors or day dangers, nor dread the plague that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
  • Though a thousand fall at my side and ten thousand are dying around me, these evils will not touch me.
  • But I will see it with my eyes; I will see how the wicked are punished.
  • If I make the LORD my refuge, if I make the Most High my shelter, no evil will conquer me; no plague will come near my dwelling; for he orders his angels to protect me wherever I go.
  • They hold me with their hands to keep me from striking my foot on a stone.
I will trample down lions and poisonous snakes; I will crush fierce lions and serpents under my feet! (Satan)
  • The LORD says that he will rescue me because I love him.
  • And he will protect me because I trust in his name.
  • He says that when I call on him, he will answer; he will be with me in trouble.
  • He will rescue me and honor me.
  • He will satisfy me with a long life and give me his salvation (Glory to His Holy Name!)

From Tears to Triumph

“In times of trouble, may the LORD respond to your cry.
May the God of Israel keep you safe from all harm.
May he send you help from his sanctuary and strengthen you from Jerusalem.
May he remember all your gifts and look favorable on your offerings.
May he grant your heart’s desire and fulfill all your plans.
May we shout for joy when we hear of your victory.” Psalm 20:1-5

Yes, and Amen to all of the above…may our LORD bless you exceedingly, abundantly beyond all you ask or think, going from tears to triumph in every way. May shouts of joy be heard from those who know of your victory, and your story be an encouragement to those in your path. In Jesus’ name.
